Grace Tree Sangha Blog

Updated: Aug 4, 2019

I began practicing yoga in 2013 and soon embraced the yoga philosophy and the desire to teach. I completed yoga instructor training in September of 2018.

I now teach yoga at Grace Tree Studio in West Chester, Ohio and in Bay Forest Community in Naples, Florida.

I have been inspired to connect to my true self and nature, and my hope is that my teaching will allow students to rediscover all the life has to offer. My approach to yoga teaching is a gentle flow and meditation, mindful of all skill levels and age groups.

A journey through mind, body and breath

How did you discover yoga?

I actually got interested through my wife who practices yoga, too.

Why is yoga such an important part of your life?

I observed other men my age who exhibited a loss of flexibility, and I did not want to follow in their footsteps. I noticed fellow golfers losing flexibility year after year, and I didn’t want that to be me. I figure I have a lot of life left in my aging body! Also, the spiritual aspect of yoga has become an integral part of my life.

Why did you decide to become a teacher?

After learning more about yoga, I took a 100-hour immersion. While vacationing in south Florida, I began attending video yoga classes at our community as there was no teacher. I was asked if I wouldn’t mind teaching a class in person to the residents. And boy did they embrace it to the point where I now teach 3 times a week there. Upon my arrival back home, I decided to complete my 200-hour instructor training.

Who inspires you most?

All of my teachers past and present.

When I'm not teaching, you can find me…

Attending yoga classes or playing golf.

Which influential person in history would you like to spend an evening with?

There are so many people I’ve admired, and they all had their place in time and history. However, at this point in my life I would love to meet the Dalai Lama.

Monday, August 12th - 7:30 to 9:30 PM

Advaita is a pointer to Truth. Commonly translated as "Non-duality", Advaita is better seen as "No-other-ness". The essence of the Upanishads, and scriptures like the Bhagavad Gita and others, indicate Advaita is our own real nature. This introductory talk is for anyone interested in the exploration of their own real nature. While we'll touch on some elements of its origin, and key figures who have kept this flame alive over the ages, we'll try to lean into the direct experience of this Reality, this One Truth, in our exploration.
